Hair Falling Out? The Distinctive Features of Male Pattern and Female Pattern Baldness

By Dr Paul Conley

Whether or not you are male or female, starting to lose hair from your head could be a horrifying experience, not to mention the feeling of embarrassment that may follow. Your self-confidence is sure to drop, but there are a variety of solutions that can help you to get back lost hair and improve hair quality. First, though, it is critical to grasp the problem that you're encountering and to identify the pattern in which you see hair falling out.

There are two kinds of hair loss that are common, although men are more inclined to hair loss than ladies. The most common cause of hair loss is androgenic alopecia, also known as androgenetic alopecia. This condition is the result of a substance called DHT, blocking the follicles on the scalp, prohibiting new hair growth. This is the most common reason that you're going to notice hair falling out.

This condition is usually separated into two forms; male pattern baldness and female pattern baldness. There are treatments, such as Propecia, for all of these types and, to be sure, you can find a hair loss treatment which will have a good chance of working for you, if you carefully watch how you lose hair over a period of time.

In the case of male pattern baldness, you'll usually first see reduced hair round the temples on the head. This is often referred to as a thinning hairline and is not unusual in men, even at a younger age, though the condition is most common in older men. Male pattern baldness then moves on to the crown of the head, or the vertex. The male condition frequently sees hair loss continuing progressively, till the top of the head is just about completely bald.

In contrast, female pattern baldness is not usually first spotted at the front of the head. In this example, the hairline frequently remains intact, but thinning begins on the crown of the head. Women will then usually see hair falling out on the side of the head round the ears. This pattern is distinguishable from male pattern baldness, especially since the front of the head is mostly unaffected by hair loss.

Of course, there are more factors behind hair loss that can sometimes be happening. Another common cause of hair loss is telogen effluvium, a general thinning and loss of hair from every area of the body, including the head. This illness has its own specific treatments though, it has a tendency to resolve itself naturally within six to eight months.

If you are experiencing the loss of hair, it's critical that you observe the pattern of hair loss that's happening. While male pattern baldness is most usual in men, and female pattern baldness is most typical in ladies, it is sometimes possible for men to encounter the female pattern and vice-versa. It is just by exactly determining the type of hair loss you're subjected to, you can begin to go searching for a good quality hair loss treatment, that will help you towards new growth.

If you are in any doubt about the precise pattern in which your hair is falling out, consult your doctor who will be more able to spot the general signs of each distinct, hair loss condition. By identifying your type of hair loss, either alone, or with professional help, you can begin to search for a hair care regime or medical solution that can stop hair falling out.
