To Dye Or Not To Dye Your Hair

By Pamela Smith

Men and women like to follow the trend of changing their hair colour from the shade they were born with. Its a popular fashion and can be dictated by the seasons too. You will find that many prefer to go lighter during the summer months to enhance their tanned complexion but this would not suit during the winter. Warmer colours are desired then to avoid the paleness of skin tone.

Colouring one's hair is not just isolated to using one colour. It is common not to use many shades together, to enhance or be a total contrast to one and another. This process is called highlighting, lowlighting and chunking if you want large sections of diverse colours instead of the usual strands. Another reason for changing hair colour is to fend off the signs of aging. Many head of grey hair has been banished by a more up beat shade to allude the older age feeling.

It takes four to six weeks for new hair to grow and in this time your new hair colour becomes defined near your roots. This is when you need to repeat the process of recolouring although some people can leave it for up to 8 weeks. By doing this on a regular basis you do dry your hair out and it is advisable that you use an excellent moisturizer. It must be noted that once you begin dying your hair it will become a challenge to keep it looking good and also you do run the risk of causing damage to your hair.

Where you have you hair dyed is up to you. Some people prefer to use the hairdressers of their choice and some are happy to do it at home. There are plenty of choice of colours in your local retail shops to enable you to do it yourself. If you using more than one colour its not a bad idea to use the same company as they will be more compatible. The newer brands actually offer kits of the main colour and matching highlights.

Professional hairdressers are the experts to match your skin tone to a new hair colour. By using their expertise you avoid the problem of the colour looking too brassy. It can take you awhile to choose the colour you want to use if doing it yourself but at least you can try another if you are not happy with the outcome.
